The diving campaign “Eco diving against marine waste” gathered information about marine waste

04.09.2023.

As part of the project “Eco-diving against marine litter”, in which diving clubs of veterans of the 4th Brigade, members of PSRK Stobreč and REK Podstrana participated, on Saturday, September 2, litter was collected on the seabed of Stobreč. This is only the first environmental action this year, which was carried out as part of this project.

As a scientific partner of the project, the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries under the leadership of dr. Pero Tutman participated in the action.

The actions were carried out according to the scientifically based methodology for the collection and analysis of marine litter in accordance with the Protocol for the Implementation of actions to clean the Marine Environment and Coastal Area from Marine Litter on the Territory of the Republic of Croatia, with the aim of monitoring the types and quantities of litter found on the territory of the Croatian Adriatic.

Everything that is collected is entered into our database for collecting information on marine litter ČistiMO, which can be found at the following link: https://vrtlac.izor.hr/ords/apopub/pocetna

The basic intention of creating this database is to try to connect interested ecological associations and diving clubs in one place in order to know the approximate number of actions carried out; to publish information about such actions and to promote them in particular, and most importantly from our scientific point of view, to connect these activities with scientific institutions and carry them out according to a certain methodology and serve the systematic collection of data on the amount of marine litter.
