The Scientific Council of the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries has selected outstanding scientists from the fields related to the laboratories working in the IOR (8 laboratories in total).
The selected members of the Scientific advisory come from Italy, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic and Croatia, are recognized in their profession and have a significant influence in the scientific community. Their role will be advisory and they will ensure that the work of the work of employees with other scientific institutions in the world to promote collaboration in research. Also, one of the roles of the scientific advisory members will also be important for younger scientists and PhD students, helping them to expand their knowledge across Europe.
To this purpose, the Institute organized a two-day symposium in Split, which was also attended by selected international members of the advisory. The first day of the symposium, Monday, Nov. 25, was dedicated to introducing future members to the work of the Institute, with each of the 8 labs giving an overview of the lab’s work and presenting the research findings of ongoing projects. The elected members of the Scientific advisory also gave a short presentation about the institutions they work in, the projects they are involved in and some of the important research they have carried out.
On the second day, Tuesday, November 26, the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Melita Peharda, presented the work of the journal Acta Adriatica, which is published by the Institute. This journal has a long tradition and has been publishing articles in the field of marine sciences continuously since 1932. The members were also able to learn more about the Institute’s rich database, which includes the longest time series of data on primary production in the world, from Dr. Damir Ivanković, and Dr. Tanja Šegvić Bubić presented the awards, published scientific papers and ongoing projects of the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries to the members..
The symposium ended with a round table where initial ideas and recommendations were exchanged based on the knowledge acquired after the presentations, as well as informal discussions with scientists during the symposium. We are confident that the selected members of the Scientific advisory will advance the scientific work of the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries with their support.
