As a project partner, the Institute participated in the organization of the conference “CREATE the future we need”, held in Medils on 20-21. 10. 2022 in a hybrid form – “live” and online, via the platform ZOOM. The conference was organized in cooperation with the Center for Regional Activities and Programs of Priority Actions (Split), Split-Dalmatia County, Energy Department Hrvoje Požar and all other partners of the project Interreg Italy-Croatia Create (Climate RESponses for the AdriaTic rEgion).
The cluster project CREATE represents the cooperation of leading Croatian and Italian institutions and organizations active in the field of climate research and adaptation along the Adriatic coast.
coordinator, Margaretha Breil, Ph.D., the authorized head of the Service for the Development of the City of Split Vedrana Franić, the Deputy Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Stipe Čogelja and the Director of the Institute Ph.D. Živana Ninčević Gladan.
The introductory lecture on the latest scientific knowledge about the climate crisis and its consequences was given by our scientist Ph.D. Natalija Dunić.
“All climate projections of regional and global climate models clearly show a rise in mean sea level in the Mediterranean, including the Adriatic. This rise will be the dominant factor leading to stronger and more frequent coastal flooding, for which we need to be prepared,” said Dr. sc. Natalija Dunić of the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries.
Today, it is really time for us as a society to respond and do everything in our power to preserve as much as possible the stability of the environment to which we have all become accustomed.
During the two-day conference, Croatian and Italian speakers discussed coastal planning and management, natural solutions in the framework of green and blue infrastructure, funding opportunities for climate change adaptation and measures that contribute to climate change mitigation.
