The Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (IOR) has joined the AZA4ICE project as a new partner in its Transfer Phase, contributing to the wider uptake and transfer of project results and supporting the development of more circular and sustainable aquaculture practices across the Mediterranean.
As part of our first project activities, members of the IOR team participated in two important transnational events.
Tangier, Morocco | July 2026
IOR Project Manager Igor Talijančić participated in the AZA4ICE Transnational Event in Tangier, which brought together aquaculture stakeholders from the EU, Morocco and the United Nations. The event focused on sustainable and circular aquaculture, North–South cooperation, spatial planning and future development of the sector. Participants also visited the INRH Aquatic Animal Pathology Centre of Excellence, connecting project discussions with research and practical experience.
Malta | September 2026
IOR team members Tanja Šegvić Bubić and Igor Talijančić participated in the AZA4ICE Transfer Phase Kick-off Meeting and 10th Project Meeting in Malta. The meeting brought together existing and new partners to discuss project progress, upcoming transfer activities, partner coordination and the uptake of AZA4ICE results in new territories.
The programme also included a field visit to Aquatic Resources Malta in Marsaxlokk, providing an opportunity to learn more about local aquaculture and marine resource management practices and to exchange knowledge and experiences with project partners.
Through its participation in the AZA4ICE Transfer Phase, IOR looks forward to contributing its expertise, strengthening cooperation with Mediterranean partners and supporting the transfer of innovative and sustainable solutions for the aquaculture sector.
