Seawater and shellfish quality monitoring plan for live shellfish production and restocking areas

The monitoring plan is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture – Veterinary and Food Safety Administration. Under this plan, the Institute monitors toxic phytoplankton species in seawater and biotoxins in shellfish in shellfish growing and shellfish harvesting areas. Phytoplankton community composition is determined weekly from April through November, and biweekly during the colder season. Biotoxins are determined weekly throughout the year. Amnesic toxins (ASP), the okadaic group, azaspiracids, jesotoxins, and paralytic toxins (PSP) are determined in mussel tissue

The areas where the monitoring plan will be conducted and the frequency of sampling can be found on the Department of Agriculture website: http://www.veterinarstvo.hr/default.aspx?id=124
