The Institute visited by representatives gathered as part of the SSF FORUM

10.04.2025.

Today, the Institute was visited by representatives of the FAO, GFCM and WWF Adria, as well as small scale fishermen from across the Mediterranean, who gathered in Split for the SSF FORUM “Selective fishing gears: from impacts to alternatives”.

During the two days in Split, participants will share knowledge and experiences, present successful examples of selective fishing and explore alternatives and innovations in fishing practices. The aim of the workshop is to promote more sustainable fishing methods, strengthen cooperation between fishing communities and create space for concrete solutions that contribute to the conservation of marine resources.

During their visit to the Institute, the participants saw promotional materials about current fisheries-related projects and a small exhibition of traditional and selective fishing gear in front of the Institute building, including models from the Split Natural History Museum.

In the library, they were welcomed by Dr. Nedo Vrgoč, head of the Fisheries Biology Laboratory, who introduced them to the work of the Institute and the state of Croatian fisheries.
