About the project
BlueGOV is an Erasmus+ project created to promote decision-making and local governance based on an understanding of the impacts that humanity has on seas and oceans, and vice versa. Since seas and oceans cover 70% of the Earth’s surface, regulate the climate, produce oxygen, provide food and livelihoods for a large portion of the population, and support diverse ecosystems, they are considered essential for life on Earth. Therefore, understanding the ocean enables informed decision-making that ensures the sustainable management of resources and helps address modern challenges such as climate change and pollution.
Through this project, the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, in cooperation with the University of Greifswald, WWF Portugal, the European Marine Science Educators Association, Sea Teach S.L., AlterContacts, and On Projects Advising SL, aims to develop a digital e-learning platform and a toolkit designed to address real-world challenges faced by various societal stakeholders. The project also seeks to promote change through a top-down approach, starting from the highest levels of decision-making and governance.
