Awards to scientists of the institute for 2021

21.02.2023.

Our scientists have achieved outstanding results in various fields of marine science that are beneficial not only to our institution but also to the entire scientific community.

In accordance with the Regulation on Annual Awards for Scientific Excellence at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, we awarded scientists for the year 2021. These awards represent our gratitude and appreciation for their efforts and outstanding achievements, and we are proud to announce the winners.

the Scientific Excellence Award was given to Ph.D. Niki Stagličić as the first author of a paper investigating the factors that influence marine debris accumulation in shallow coastal areas. A scientific paper on this research was published in the journal Marine Pollution Bulletin in 2021 with a high impact factor. This research contributes to the understanding of the problem of marine litter in the Adriatic Sea, and the results and knowledge gained have practical application in the development of effective strategies to eliminate and reduce litter in the marine environment.

️Dr. sc. Petra Zemunik is the recipient of the Award for Scientific Excellence of a Young Scientist (PhD student or postdoctoral researcher) for her research on high-frequency oscillations of sea level caused by the atmosphere. In 2021, she published three papers, two of which she was first author and one of which she co-authored. Her paper, published in the journal Earth System Science Data (IF2021=11,815), describes a dataset developed to study phenomena such as meteorological tsunamis.

️Dr. sc. Jakov Dulčić and Ph.D. Natalija Dunić were recognized for their work on popularizing science.

Congratulations to the winners!️
