Our scientists took part in the final meeting of the Climarest project in Cyprus.
Although the project is nearing its end, the collaborations that have begun will continue. Joining Climarest has sparked entirely new research at our Institute, especially on the possibilities of restoring the seabed beneath fish-farming cages.
The research is still ongoing, but we can already say that our “octopus apartments” are proving their worth. Not only did they quickly find their new residents, but the first generation of octopuses has already emerged inside them, starting its life on our artificial structures.
This is just the beginning. Ahead of us are new studies, further improvement of artificial reefs and testing in new locations and different environmental conditions.
The Climarest project has brought us valuable networking, knowledge exchange and cooperation with international partners and local stakeholders interested in restoring these habitats and protecting biodiversity more broadly.
We look forward to everything that lies ahead.
