The University’s Department of Marine Studies host the final conference that concluded the activities of the HATCH project, in which the University’s Department was one of the project partners. The guest speaker of the conference was Dr. Slaven Jozić, who presented the results of the Eurobath project. The topic of the presentation was “The influence of spatio-temporal variations in the concentration of fecal pollution indicators on the assessment of the quality of the sea for swimming”.
The Eurobath project, led by Dr. Jozić from our Laboratory of Microbiology, is being carried out on a large number of beaches and is funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. The aim of the project is to provide a scientific basis for better management of bathing water quality through improved monitoring and legislation, with a focus on protecting human health and the environment. The results of the project so far have already led to guidelines that have been incorporated into the new EU Bathing Water Management Directive.
