The Institute was visited by a delegation from Los Angeles made up of representatives from various sectors of the city, such as tourism, energy, waste recycling, representatives of the Port of Los Angeles and the city administration, as well as some institutions operating in Los Angeles. Among them was Terry Tamminen, CEO of the non-profit organization AltaSea, who presented the organization’s main activities. AltaSea is dedicated to accelerating scientific collaboration in the areas of aquaculture, the blue economy and renewable energy sources.
The director presented the Institute’s activities, after which the Institute’s scientists presented some of the projects they are working on to find common topics for mutual cooperation. Aquaculture proved to be the most favorable topic for collaboration, especially in the development of new products for the market, with a particular focus on research into sustainable aquaculture practices that include reducing the ecological footprint and adapting to climate change.
