Population Status and Stock Dynamics of Rajidae in the Adriatic Sea

The AdriaSkate project aims to advance knowledge of the biodiversity, population structure, and spatio-temporal dynamics of skate species (Rajidae) in the northern and central Adriatic Sea (GSA 17), with the primary objective of identifying critical habitats (nursery and spawning grounds) and strengthening the scientific basis for their protection and potential redefinition of conservation status under IUCN criteria. The study integrates historical datasets (1948–2024), contemporary field observations, and advanced molecular approaches. Expected outcomes include identification of critical habitats, delineation of population genomic units, and a robust scientific basis for improved stock assessment and management of commercially important and threatened skate species in the Adriatic Sea
