European Marine Board published report with key recommendations for strengthening coastal resilience

17.12.2024.

Yesterday, the European Marine Board (IVZW) published a report: “Requirements for Coastal Resilience in Europe”, with important recommendations for decision-makers to strengthen coastal resilience and better prepare for the challenges ahead.

Why is this important?
Coastal areas are complex ecosystems, but also important for various economic activities and therefore subject to strong human pressure. Protecting coastal areas and the communities that depend on them requires a holistic approach that takes into account the interconnected ecosystems and social aspects.
This report presents strategies for managing coastal areas and communities to strengthen resilience. It places particular emphasis on natural solutions to protect coasts and prevent damage. Download the report here.

The Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries is a member of the “EMB – European Marine Board”, an independent scientific organization linking key institutions from 18 European countries, promoting cooperation and participating in determining future and priority European oceanographic research.
