THE CHALLENGE
Adriatic mariculture provides highly valued fish products for both local and distant markets. This sector can further develop thanks to new available technologies and stronger information for consumers. The sector can offer high qualification job opportunities and boost local economy.

THE TEAM
Within AdriAquaNet project, 4 industries, 1 consortium and 7 research laboratories from both Italy and Croatia are teaming up to develop and apply technologies for fish farming and marketing. This is the first initiative ever to improve the quality of fish farming and marketing by cooperation between both sides of the Adriatic Sea.

THE GOALS

  • New recipes to feed farmed fish, so to improve their wellness and quality;
  • New vaccines and natural compounds in support of fish health;
  • New systems to manage wastes from sea farms, so to extract biofuel while reducing water pollution
  • New food processing and marketing for reaching more consumers.
  • Transfer of these new technologies to 25 SME and training of a group of 50 workers to apply these innovations in their workplace.

TECH FOR HEALTHY FISH IN CLEAN ENVIROMENT
EXPECTED RESULTS
Mariculture in Italy and in Croatia provides excellent fish supply and job opportunities with great prospectives. For the first time Adriatic industires and R&I institutes will jointly innovate, maintain and consolidate:

  • Healthy feeding in clear water.
  • Natural therapies for healthy fish.
  • Healthy food for all tastes.

Establishment of a coordinated network of partners in both Italy and Croatia that continuously exchange personnel, instrumentation and protocols for research and innovation in aquaculture. Validation of innovative protocols for fish farm management (cage water, fish nutrition, fish health) and fish food tech by 4 industry partners. Transfer of such innovative protocols to 25 local SMEs and training of a group of 50 workers to apply these innovations in their workplace. Guidelines for fish food marketing and promotion. Expert policy opinions about joint management of the aquaculture sector in the future.
